Boavida rabbits are raised with careful attention to their natural needs and well-being. They live in calm, clean environments with natural airflow, comfortable bedding, and species-appropriate housing that allows space to move and behave naturally.

Daily care ensures their health and comfort, while seasonal access to fresh greens and forage complements their diet. By prioritising low-stress, humane conditions, we raise healthier animals—and healthier, calmer animals produce better-quality meat with superior texture and flavour.

A Key Component of the Regenerative System

Rabbits play a unique and powerful role in Boavida’s regenerative farming system, particularly through the exceptional quality of their manure.

Rabbit manure is naturally pelletised, rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, and considered a “cool” fertiliser that can be applied directly without burning plants. This makes it one of the most valuable fertility inputs on the farm, especially for tunnels, tomatoes, leafy greens, and intensive vegetable beds.

Integrated into a closed-loop cycle, vegetable offcuts are fed to the rabbits, whose manure is then returned directly to the soil to nourish new crops. This process reduces waste, strengthens soil life, supports nutrient-dense vegetables, and efficiently converts plant material into high-quality fertility—closing the loop quickly and naturally within the farm system.
